    Within vascular surgery, varicose vein medicine is the discipline of lower limb venous circulatory disorders. And varicose veins are caused by insufficient venous circulation in the lower limbs, so it is clear that vascular surgeons and angiologists responsible for the internal medicine treatment of vascular diseases are the best placed to treat them. Genetics are primarily responsible for the development of varicose veins, but a sedentary lifestyle, being overweight, pregnancy or certain operations can also increase the risk of developing the disease.It is therefore undeniable that in certain situations, a more sporty and health-conscious lifestyle can clearly contribute to keeping the veins in the lower limbs healthy. But is a health-conscious lifestyle alone enough?

    Circulatory disturbances in the tiny capillaries under the skin cause the appearance of so-called saphenous veins in the lower limbs, which are also treated by vascular surgery.

    However, as broom veins are often only an aesthetic problem for patients, they often hope for a permanent and painless solution through cosmetically effective treatments.

    However, the process, which is initially less obvious and disturbing, and sometimes goes unnoticed, inevitably leads to the appearance of more spectacular and much higher risk varicose veins if the real causes are not addressed.

    I had deep vein thrombosis, can I still have the surgery?
    An ultrasound scan can determine the condition of the deep veins, which will determine whether surgery can be performed. If the flow in the deep veins is inadequate and the superficial veins are needed to transport the venous blood, surgery should not be performed.

    In the event of failure of varicose vein surgery, an increase in symptoms, chronic venous insufficiency, leg ulceration can be expected, and surgery in such complicated cases is associated with a significantly higher risk. There is no absolute indication for mechanochemical ablation surgery, which should only be performed after weighing the risk-benefit ratio. Cosmetic results are visible a few weeks after the procedure.

    It’s basically natural that a few days after the operation, a bruise will be visible on the skin, the problem is only if it keeps growing, tightening, causing inflammation, fever. If the case is questionable, it is better to show it to someone who knows.

    Before varicose vein surgery, visibly dilated veins are marked with a special pen. As a first step, a guide catheter is inserted into the main vein trunk to be treated under ultrasound guidance, the end of the catheter is guided up to the point of direct inflow into the deep venous system, followed by local anaesthesia. During laser surgery, the laser thread is passed through the guide catheter to the treatment site and, under continuous ultrasound control, the thread and catheter are slowly withdrawn into the vein, while the laser energy heats the blood in the immediate vicinity of the thread end. The heat causes the blood to coagulate and the energy is transferred to the vessel wall, precipitating its proteins and causing the vessel wall to shrink and become blocked. In radiofrequency (RF) revascularisation, the radiofrequency (RF) catheter is passed through a short guide catheter to the treatment site and then slowly withdrawn into the vessel under continuous ultrasound control, while the RF energy heats the vessel wall. The heat causes the proteins in the vessel wall to precipitate and shrink, causing it to close. The treatment process is clearly visible on the ultrasound image. After treatment of the main vein trunk, the other side branches are treated with separate punctures under anaesthesia. The result of the treatment may vary from patient to patient.
